Diva Cup

I've tried it. And I'm giving myself a chocolate bar. My offer sill stands.

So far all I have to report is: I was scared to put it in, putting it in was easy, turning it (as the directions say to) was tricky, it's not bothering me once it's in, and I'm scared to take it out.

I got one today too! I will try it tomorrow probably and I am so scared... But I think I got a good deal. It wouldn't ring up so they asked how much I thought it was and I said $20, so they honored that! I had no clue but I thought it was around that. Good deal?

Sarah H is over right now. She says she got one, tried it, and says "be careful taking it out"!

Can we have our chocolate bars now?

That is a good deal, mine was around $30.

I had quite a time getting it out. Be sure you don't put it up too far. I went online and there is a lot of talk and tips out there about the cups!

Sounds like there is really a learning curve. Kind of reminds me of the cloth diapers. Seems like at first a lot of pepole hate it and then they love it.

I got a little panicky when I couldn't get the think out but after reading stuff online and takig a relaxing shower everything was fine.

I took a break over night and I'm trying it again today.

2 chocolate bars coming up!!! Light or dark?

I'm using mine right now. The very first insertion and extraction weren't fun, but now I feel like a pro! Trimming that stem, the angle of insertion and being careful with pulling it out are the key things to get down. I'm won over so far!

Light chocolate for me, please :)

Now I think I've figured out the insertion and extraction- to use Eric'a technical terms :), down. I've been having trouble getting it to pop open and the whole spinning thing and because of that it's not getting a good seal, and I end up having leeks. But I think once I get that part figured out I'll be happy with it.

You were brave E, to cut the stem! I might eventually too.

I'm feeling a lot more confident also! By next month we will all be experts.

Light for me too please :)

Glad it's working so well for you two. I really want it to work but I think due to my tilted cervix the Diva Cup may not be the right brand for me. I'm finding some good online forums that have some very frank discussions and tips of the different brands etc. I'm finding this group especially helpful; community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups After a few more trys, I may switch to the Mooncup and return the Diva Cup. It's nice they have the money back guarantee.

Yea for you all! I bought my "supplies" recently and it looks big. (eeek!) But, just waiting a few weeks to try it myself. Enjoy that chocolate! (Mine will be dark when my time comes... hint hint)

Okay, having read to the bottom of all the comments, I am feeling less sure about the ease of this. And now I am curious of my "tilt" issues. (I am not aware of it) Seems the doc always commented on it's correct positioning, so maybe I am in the clear here.

Hoping they trash any returned ones... sure hate to end up with a second lulu one! eeeeeeewwwww...

So what is the mess level with taking it out? The boy loves to always be with me, and he is well versed as a result on what a tampon and pad are, as well as the fact that I use them for menstruation. (didn't want to confuse him with early grammar lessons with "period") I plan to take breaks at night... maybe change it after he's asleep. :-)

Well it can be a little messy if you wash it every time as the DC directions suggest, but I noticed the Mooncup said you can just wipe it off with a tissue (or wash it)- so it seems like if you do it that way, it wouldn't be much more messy than a tampon.

Oh, and I'd be interested in the system you come up with (or anyone else) for dealing with the reusable liners and pads. I'm trying to get the whole cup thing figured out before I go there!

In my experience they are a tad messy. Especially if you have a sink far from your toilet and you have to hobble over to wash it before reinserting. I'm sure you can skip the wash if you wash your hands before taking it out.

I am having leaking issues. I think it gets too far up (does that cause leaking?).

I want to get cloth pads too and since we do cloth diapers now, they can go in the same pail and be washed within a couple days. Sarah does this already and I will probably follow suit, but you can buy these bags called wetbags (used to put dirty cloth diapers in when you are out) that are waterproof and zip shut. Have one by your toilet or have them with you out and about to put them in until washing time. I may not get one since I have a special pail already but that may be perfect for you... Here are some from the website I bought Abby's diapers from http://www.abbyslane.com/catalog.php?category=175
Appropriate name, huh?

I just had a thought: I'll probably order one for when I am out, so if you want to join in to save shipping, let me know! And same with reusable pads...

So to catch you up...

Jennifer started this blog because she was going through the process of becoming more conscious of her lifestyle choices and had decided to "go green". As she talked to her friends she quickly realized that she was not the only one interested in making changes. The blog was born. We used this as a place to discuss things we've tried and to support each other in the journey.
