Bulk Peanut Butter

I am so in love with Community Market. I love just about everything about that little store. After the post Erica did awhile back about all the things that we think can be recycled but can't (but I still really want to do the tour with our local recycler to find out what the deal is locally) it got me wanting to reduce waste even more. I'm really enjoying shopping in the bulk section and I feel good about all the packaging that saves.

Today I brought in my empty unwashed peanut butter jar (that we had just finished) and had them weigh it, then filled it up with bulk peanut butter. Plus it was kind of fun to use that grind-up-the-peanuts-machine. Another bonus- natural peanut butter that you don't have to stir!!!

Great idea Jennifer! I make sure to buy mine in glass after reading that recycling info. I learned a new trick about the oils that rise in natural peanut butter: store it in your cupboard upside-down. Works great!

Cool tip about the pb! I'm totally gonna steal that move. Nathan came up to me the other day and said "Did you know that it is possible to 'spill' organic peanut butter?" There was a puddle on the floor, so funny! Never happened with Jif but hey its worth it right? Good job with the bulk buys Jennifer, I still need to move in that direction.

Yeah, great job! I have tried the more natural peanut butters lately in an effort to move in the right direction, but I guess I live among peanut butter snobs because they just don't like it. This is a house where they scoop it out and eat it by the spoonfuls. So, I did switch from Peter Pan to Jif due to ratings in that book. I will keep searching for one I can do in bulk. And thanks for putting the glass jar comment there. I keep wanting to move that direction - especially for the reused containers - due to the possible leacing from plastic.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iphone
and tested to see if it can survive a forty foot drop, just so she can be

has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!

Welcome Visitors!

If you're reading for the first time, it may feel a bit like you've just walked into a conversation that has been going on for awhile.

So to catch you up...

Jennifer started this blog because she was going through the process of becoming more conscious of her lifestyle choices and had decided to "go green". As she talked to her friends she quickly realized that she was not the only one interested in making changes. The blog was born. We used this as a place to discuss things we've tried and to support each other in the journey.
